‘Reflections’ is a painting that is studying the reflections within the water created by Autumn Acer trees. When the trunks and branches of Acers get wet, they appear incredibly dark, sometimes almost black. In stark contrast, you get the blaze of red or green leaves. I like that there are so many reflections in the water that it appears green and red, yet because of the disappearing and refracted branches, we know that it is water.

The painting is meant to be peaceful so that you can feel you are sitting under the shade of the tree in the Autumn sunshine watching the water, reflections, and the last few insects of the season flitting around upon the water’s surface.

The scene is meant to be serene and so beautiful that we cannot ignore the environmental changes. This is because the painting is in stark contrast to reality; we will be compelled to save it.
