Bumble Bee
Oil on Board
40 x 50 cms, 15.75 x 19.5 inches
I research inspiration for my large brightly coloured artworks for hours. Primarily from the surrounding landscape in Sussex, UK or my garden, where I encourage wildflowers, pollinators and wildlife. I wonder around the garden stopping to watch the insects, which flower they move to next, and I capture them with photography.
This oil painting represents both my love of insects and the importance of them. Bees are such delicate creatures, and we need them to pollinate for us. There are so many species in the UK, but they are shrugged off as yet another bee. This bee based upon a bumble bee, is my species of bee, and is not meant to be any specific bee, but a celebration of all bees, indicated by the bright simple background. I have painted this bee to also be a symbol for the importance of all insects to our lives.
