Lifecycle 2
Oil on Board, 21.5 x 50 cms, 8.5 x 19.5 inches
I am constantly inspired by the nature around me, a lot of which I grow in my own garden. Many plants I grow from seed and then I document their growth through both photography and drawings. From these images I then develop ideas for my final paintings.
Whilst I was drawing and photographing Crocosmia I noticed how the growth pattern of Crocosmia looks very similar to a backbone or ribcage. This reminded me how bones and decaying animals breakdown in the soil to produce nutrients for plants - the cycle of life. This is what inspired both the painting and the name of it, Lifecycle.
