As an artist I am constantly inspired by the colours and landscape around me. The British countryside is diverse and breath taking, and even though many of my artworks have environmental message about climate change, they are also about the beauty of the UK. This series of art is primarily based upon the stunning landscape of the Sussex countryside. After growing up in Hampshire surrounded by trees, the one thing you notice about Sussex are fewer trees, rolling fields and huge skies. Although I miss the trees and woodland of Hampshire, I also love the landscape of Sussex. The dark moody clouds against the bright yellow fields of rape, or the salmon pink skies of evening over a soon-to-be harvested field of rye.
These paintings are not of specific scenes in Sussex, many I capture using my memory. I have a sky or a landscape which I have seen and been overwhelmed by, which get stuck in my head until I paint and release them.
