As an artist I am constantly inspired by the landscape around me. I live and work in Sussex, UK and from my art studio window I look across fields and see beautiful sunsets at dusk. I often work on the landscapes in my artworks from memory as it is photographic.
“Towards the Horizon” is based upon the late summer evening and the dropping sun that causes the hazy scene to turn purple and blue. The last Cornflowers wave into your field of view on the light warm breeze as the last butterfly of the season feeds. The flowers are inspired by the many wildflowers I grow from seed in my garden and the butterfly from the vast library of photographic images I have taken during my career since leaving art college.
This painting is all about the end of the day and the end of the season, the sun is setting, and the insects take that final opportunity to feed. It is meant to be a peaceful and still scene, not sad, as tomorrow brings a new day. |
