I am lucky enough to live in a rural part of Sussex, UK, surrounded by countryside, and this is my constant inspiration as an artist. Every spring the verges and my garden are covered in wild Columbine (or Aquilegia). I love these flowers they have strange tentacle shaped features that come out the top of the little hat like wildflowers.
In this painting I have replaced the stamens of the Aquilegia with beetles. The insects should not be overly obvious when you first look at them but revealed as you look closer. People generally shy away from insects but their relationship is imperative to the shaping and wellbeing of our landscape. |
